Joan's response to Kristin's drama:To the Editor:Not sure where the disconnect exists. After reading Councilor Campanelli’s assessment of the special Town Council meeting held on Aug 11, you would have thought that total calamity and mayhem had laid siege to our Berlin Town Hall. In fact there were a handful of citizens in attendance. There were no boo’s, hissing, yelling, sighing, gestures, name-calling or gnashing of teeth to be heard. In fact, those present sat quietly and respectfully. How Ms. Campanelli could become so unhinged at the sight of a few signs quietly raised in support of the efforts of the bipartisan Charter Revision Committee is stupefying and speaks directly to her character. It is a shame, that instead of focusing her energy on the various elements of the proposed charter revision changes, Ms. Campanelli chose to critique the citizens and offer up a tainted perception of the meeting. The uncivilized and threatening behaviors that Ms. Campanelli raves about were actually generated by her and simply unwarranted. The mayor, other council members along with a primarily female audience, did not seem to share in that same “perceived” threat. The charter revisions being proposed deserve everyone’s undivided attention. The proposed changes and adjustments were mutually arrived at by a well-represented committee. Let’s take the time, over the next few months, to consider each of the changes proposed. Weigh the pros and cons and make the best decision to bring our town into a fiscally responsible, citizen responsive, form of government.I urge everyone to support all the proposed changes to the town charter. Vote “yes” in November.Let’s join together and put our government back to work for us.Joan VeleyBerlin ... See MoreSee Less
